RADIO TIME OUT CHARITY EVENT
|Date:||22 August 2020 18:00|
On Saturday 22 August from 18.00 CET, starting with a house set and ending with a strong PSY Trance hit, we want to support Julke.
Julia Kuczała is a sensitive and very delicate 18-year-old. Today she is fighting an opponent who doesn’t give her any forums – a malignant brain tumor, a pineoblastoma. An opponent who doesn’t care about her age, about her fragility. An opponent who wants to kill. But Julia has shown that under her delicacy she hides a powerful fighting spirit, strength and determination. She must win, and we must help her.
There’s a fight for everything. A fight for a very malignant brain tumor, a pineoblastoma! When Julia finished her eighteenth birthday in July, she was already after surgery and another chemistry cycle! A few days later, information came in from a clinic in the USA – a chance for Julia is a treatment involving a series of autologous bone marrow transplants. Very modern, very effective, but also very expensive! This appeal is a cry for help. Please, help me…
In June, before the surgery to resect the tumor, Julka left the office crying, looked me in the eyes and said she was afraid to die. It was a blow. No parent should ever hear such words from their child…
Our nightmare began in April this year. We were worried about the repeated headaches and nausea. When it came to this double vision, we went to the doctor, who at our request wrote us a referral for an MRI. There was a middle of a pandemic, but our anxiety was so great that we stood on our heads to have an MRI done as soon as possible.
When the MRI came in, we all died, both us and the doctors. Julia was about to turn eighteen. In the meantime, she was receiving a result that was an unwanted ticket to oncology. MRI showed a tumor in her head. We went to the neurosurgery ward immediately with a referral. It turned out she had to stay in the hospital completely alone because of the epidemic. Then we drove over 100 kilometers to the hospital every day just so that she could see us through the window, wave to her and comfort her.
After a few days at the hospital, Julia underwent surgery, during which the doctors took tumor samples for histopathological examination, which confirmed the worst of the assumptions. It’s a pineoblastoma, a rare, fast-growing tumor of the central nervous system…
We knew Julia would have one more surgery and then severe chemotherapy. We had to do everything to get her in the best hands. The choice fell on the Children’s Health Center in Warsaw. There Julia underwent another surgery – this time removing the tumor.
After the surgery the next stage of treatment started – chemotherapy. We all know how hard this treatment is, but we had to tighten our teeth and go through it. To live… Almost immediately Julia lost her beautiful, long and curly hair. It was a handful… and then there was a terrible stomach ache. At one point Julia even asked me if it was metastasized.
In the meantime, we consulted Julia’s case with one of the most prominent pediatric oncologists in the USA who specializes in treating brain tumors – Professor Jonathan Finlay. A series of autologous bone marrow transplants will be a salvation and a chance to overcome the tumor. Unfortunately, we still don’t know what the final valuation of the therapy will be. Initially, we can say that it may cost even 900 thousand dollars, i.e. over 3.5 million PLN! The effectiveness of the therapy is proven, among others, by the words of some Polish oncologists, who say that Americans have possibilities that are unrivalled for us today. And that it is necessary to take advantage of the opportunity that they offered Julia.
Professor Finlay told us about two girls he treated, Julia’s peers. Today both are completely healthy and are full-time students. We believe that this will be the case with Julia…
18 is the age to start life, not to say goodbye to it! But cancer doesn’t care about age or the time that is running out of time. Every day it shows its strength and does everything to take life, so we have to do everything to defeat it. We need a whole army of good people to help us raise money for Julie’s treatment and fight with us for her life! Please, be with us, join our fight…
